Types of Thyroid Cancer Drugs
Thyroid cancer can be treated using different types of drugs depending on the stage and type of cancer. Some of the major classes of drugs used include:
Radioactive Iodine
Radioactive iodine, also known as I-131, is one of the most common Thyroid Cancer Drugs, treatments for differentiated thyroid cancers like papillary and follicular cancer. As thyroid cancers are known to absorb iodine, radioactive iodine treatment helps destroy any remaining cancer cells in the body. It is usually given orally as a capsule after thyroidectomy. Radioactive iodine remains the standard therapy after surgery for recurrent or metastatic differentiated thyroid cancer.
